In a conversation with John Furrier, Industry Analyst at theCUBE, Lilly McNealus, Director of Outbound Product Management for Cloud AI at Google Cloud, and Rajesh Abhyankar, Senior Vice President at Persistent, discuss the roadmap enterprises can take when stepping up from predictive AI to Generative AI (GenAI) and moving from business-to-business use cases (employee- or contact service agent-focused) to B2C deployments.

While AI is not new to enterprises, use cases for the most part have been internally focused. This has helped enterprises acclimate themselves to the tools, platform, and workflows required to operationalize AI that predicts behaviors or forthcoming events (also known as MLOps). However, to operationalize GenAI effectively, enterprises need to go further.

At Google Cloud Next ’24, questions revolved around addressing the gap between predictive AI-GenAI gap. Specifically, discussions involved how bridging it requires identifying the right use case, zeroing in on the right tooling strategy, creating the right data sets and a data environment to support the necessary compute power, and then manifesting it as a platform that orchestrates the various moving parts in a GenAI-led, customer-centric deployment.

Tackling this gap will force a long overdue conversation within enterprises between IT teams that execute these projects on the ground and the business leadership driving strategic goals and defining budgets. Taking GenAI to customers will also require a dive deep into Responsible AI, and enterprises must ensure the right levels of AI model observability to serve end users in meaningful ways. Underpinning it all is data – how it is trained, tested, validated, and then made ready for AI models. Persistent’s strategic partnership with Google and long-standing data practice make us the ideal partner for enterprises making the leap from predictive to GenAI – ensuring they deploy the right strategies for tooling, data, use cases, personnel, and change management.
